1. Preparation
– Windows/Linux/Chromebook PC (disk space available).
– A USB flash drive (8/16/32GB).
– Time (0.5-1 hour).
2. Download Wayne OS zip file
– Download
3. Unzip
– You need to have enough disk space as Wayne OS size (ex: wayne-os-16g requires at least 16GB disk space).
– Once unzip, it will show .bin file.
4. Initialize USB flash drive (optional)
– If your USB flash drive has error/corruption, the installation process could fail.
– If the installation process failed, refer the next section (How can I remove Wayne OS and initialize my USB flash drive?).
5, Overwrite .bin file on USB flash drive by image writer tool
[for Windows user]
– USBWriter-1.3: refer here
– win32diskimager-binary: refer here
– Chromebook recovery utility: refer here
* click gear icon/setting on top right > use local image.
* This is working well, but since it will disappear from Chrome Web Store soon due to Google’s policy, please refer to the link.
– balenaEtcher-Portable-1.5.109: This seems not working for Wayne OS installation perfectly.
– rufus-3.11: This cannot install Wayne OS exactly.
[for Chromebook user]
– Chromebook recovery utility: refer here
* click gear icon/setting on top right > use local image
[for Linux user]
– sudo dd if=[bin file] of=/dev/[USB]
– /dev/[USB] must be a device name like sdx. Not a partition name like sdx1
6. Check
– Once completed, you can see a USB-STORAGE partition if the installation is succeed.
– Try to boot the USB flash drive on your computer via USB booting in BIOS/UEFI setting.
